Reaction on DepEd’s

DepEd signed a memorandum concerning classifications on the recognition of academic excellence awardees last week, May 27. As a student, I still think it is fair and impartial to announce to students the old method. Especially if you see your names higher on the list, it’s a great feeling. But I think DepEd’s method will encourage more students to perform better and study harder. There are times when some students are frustrated or even scolded for not reaching top 1 or even just a higher ranking. With this memorandum, students won’t be discouraged as much as they would have been.

Before transferring to Lagro High School, my school also changed its method of announcement to this. With a simple table similar to the one in the memorandum taped to the door of the classroom where the grades can be seen before entering the room. Most if not all of the students and parents were positive about the students’ grades. With this way of announcing the academic excellence awardees, you won’t be competing against another student, you will instead aim to get a grade as high or even higher than other students.
